Reimagining Healing Trauma

“The Sacred Wound is the critical act through which the mortal achieves divinity. Jesus must have his Crucifixion. Dionysius must boast to attract Titanic enemies. Persephone must be carried down to Hades and married to Darkness. You may deny and resist this truth with all the strength you can muster,
but the woundings will continue, sometimes relentlessly, apparently meaninglessly, until you agree to wake up.”
~ Jean Houston

The concept of the sacred wound is as old as antiquity. Poet and activist Robert Bly tells us that where a person’s deepest wound is, that is where their genius will be. Bly continues, “Wherever the wound appears in our psyches… that is precisely the place for which we will give our major gift to the community.”

As with seemingly everything in our economic system, Trauma Healing has been commodified, leading to the tragic and growing syndrome of “re-traumatization.” This is reported by many, with upwards of 20% of clients experiencing retraumatization, and appears to be a common syndrome in certain breathwork modalities.

Healing our traumas is essential to both psychological and spiritual growth; knowing the right “medicine” and dosage is critical. Join us as we explore this important subject.

“If we cannot find a way to make our wounds into sacred wounds,
we invariably become cynical, negative, or bitter.”
~ Richard Rohr
